We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them -- Albert Einstein

How do I go about finding a therapist?
If you have found this website, it means that you are looking for a therapist to deal with issues that are causing you pain, such as anxiety and depression. This can be a great opportunity for change as pain is often the best motivator for growth.
Most importantly, finding a therapist is also about clicking with someone who can understand you. After an initial phone consultation you will have a much better idea about how I work and whether we can form an effective working relationship.
Am I the right therapist for you? A Free Telephone Consultation.
It is very important to find the right therapist for you. You need to feel safe and to trust that the therapist will efficiently work toward your goals. I offer a free 30-minute telephone consultation. In that 30-minute time you will get a good idea about how I work and the potential for a working relationship. I can offer referrals if the fit doesn't feel just right.
I offer individual therapy, couples counseling and family therapy in Lafayette, CA. As a psychotherapist I have a warm, active, direct and practical approach to therapy that borrows from several different psychodynamic theoretical orientations mostly object relations and attachment theory. Because of that, I look for patterns from the past and the way they play out in our current life situations and make connections about our thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors that often help us move beyond our unhappiness or dissatisfactions into a life with many more choices and personal agency.
I offer short-term therapy aimed at symptom reduction.
I offer consultations for decision-making.
I provide long-term depth oriented psychotherapy that focuses on identifying maladaptive patterns of behavior and increased self-awareness.
Areas of interest, strength and further study are: ADHD for both children and adults, family systems, parenting, addiction, co-dependency, depression, anxiety, sexual assault, money and finances, Dialectal Behavioral Therapy in treating Addiction.
I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (License #45191) with a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology from John F. Kennedy University and a BA in Economics from City University of New York.
I have a private practice in Lafayette, CA and have been in practice for over 10 years. Prior to being a Psychotherapist, I worked on Municipal Bond trading floors for both Morgan Stanley and Merrill Lynch. I also worked in marketing and advertising for a national non-profit organization in New York City.

Do You Take My Insurance?
I am not on insurance panels, some types of insurance will cover my services as an "out of network provider." I can provide you with a receipt for services that can be submitted to your insurance company for possible reimbursement or to your Medical Flexible Spending Account.
Consider carefully whether using health insurance is the best option for you. Using insurance for psychotherapy can present certain difficulties, including difficulties with eligibility in the future obtaining health, disability or life insurance. Insurance benefits can limit the number of sessions and can increase the risk that your confidentiality will be compromised. Additionally, often health insurance limits different kinds of therapy like family, couples or group therapy.

Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be. You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine. -- Marianne Williamson
